Applications
Applications are due by April 8, 2010, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Potential intermediary applicants can access the full NOFA. Applicants must apply using the Corporation’s eGrants system.
The release of the final NOFA followed a one-month public comment period that generated over 200 public comments from a broad array of stakeholders, including potential intermediaries, nonprofit organizations and experts with deep experience in grantmaking, social change, evaluation, replication and expansion.
“The input of the nonprofit and philanthropic communities has greatly improved the final product that we’re publishing today,” said Stephen Goldsmith, the Chair of the Corporation’s Board of Directors. “This is a key first step toward providing the financial capital and the ideas to focus public and private resources on what works, so our nation can make dramatic progress on key social challenges.”

Anticipated $200 million in public-private funding will support transformative solutions to major social challenges and improve nation's challenge-solving infrastructure
WASHINGTON, DC – The Corporation for National and Community Service released a draft Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for its 2010 Social Innovation Fund (SIF) grant competition today. The Corporation is soliciting public feedback on the funding notification through January 15, 2010.
“The bottom line is clear: Solutions to America's challenges are being developed every day at the grass roots – and government shouldn't be supplanting those efforts, it should be supporting those efforts,” remarked President Barack Obama at a June 2009 gathering of nonprofit and philanthropic leaders. “Instead of wasting taxpayer money on programs that are obsolete or ineffective, government should be seeking out creative, results-oriented programs like the ones here today and helping them replicate their efforts across America.”

Speaking before a group of nonprofit and philanthropic leaders on June 30th, President Obama stated that:
The bottom line is clear: Solutions to America's challenges are being developed every day at the grass roots – and government shouldn't be supplanting those efforts, it should be supporting those efforts. Instead of wasting taxpayer money on programs that are obsolete or ineffective, government should be seeking out creative, results-oriented programs like the ones here today and helping them replicate their efforts across America.
The Corporation for National Community and Service (the Corporation) is taking up the President's call through the creation of the Social Innovation Fund—a fund that was authorized by the bi-partisan Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009.

With the recent passage of the Serve America Act and, with it, an authorization for a Social Innovation Fund, there are a lot of questions about how this Fund is going to work.
These details are actively being developed by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which is responsible for forming the Fund’s regulatory and structural features and serving as its administrator. These decisions will take into account the general framework for the Fund provided in the Serve America Act.
We’ve created the following FAQ to provide information about the basic design of the Social Innovation Fund as it is written in the Serve America Act.
