TEACH FOR AMERICA – New Mexico

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY EVENT

On December 5th Teach For America – New Mexico committed to the Adopt-A-Highway program through the New Mexico Department of Transportation. We adopted the following Four New Mexico Highways: Highway 264 mile marker 3-4, Highway 371 mile marker 11-12, Highway 602 mile marker 4-5 and Highway 491 mile marker 5-6.

We chose these highways because our corps members use these roads for travel to the schools and communities they live in, serve in and feel deeply connected to. Teach For AmeriCorps members have committed to help keep our highways clean and safe and will continue to maintain the beauty of our New Mexico Highways while protecting our environment. In addition to a cleaner and safer roadside, picking up litter helps prevent pollutants from entering our arroyos, rivers and lakes. This program provides a great opportunity to promote civic responsibility and community pride and to protect our environment for future generations to enjoy. Teach For America and community volunteers really had fun, and we have already scheduled March 6, 2010 for our second clean-up event of our highways.
