The Roswell Independent School District (RISD) has unique needs, ranging from poverty to illegal immigration. RISD proposes to administer an AmeriCorps Program that will enable them to continue strengthening previously implemented district wide initiatives.

AmeriCorps Members will serve as tutors/mentors to students in all 12 Roswell elementary schools, and engage the Roswell community in a variety of community strengthening activities.

They will also serve as part of the Title VII program, support monolingual Spanish families' participation in Family Early Literacy initiatives, and assist in administering the Lightspan computer based program at all the schools during the traditional day. They will also provide service during out of school times during the school year and in the summer. Currently serving Roswell, New Mexico.
