Mini-grants available for 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance “green” community projects.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM—The New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism announced today a call for host site applications to support 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Serve Outdoors for statewide community green projects in recognition of 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
The Commission’s mission is to engage citizens of New Mexico of all ages and backgrounds in community based service; such service will address New Mexico’s human, educational, environmental, public safety, health, housing and other needs to achieve direct and beneficial results
President Barack Obama proclaimed, “September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Originated by the family members of those who lost loved ones on 9/11, the National Day of Service and Remembrance is an opportunity to salute the heroes of 9/11, recapture the spirit of unity and compassion that inspired our Nation following the attacks, and rededicate ourselves to sustained service to our communities.”
In partnership with the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism, Sierra Club, The Center for Philanthropic Partnerships and We Serve, New Mexico the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Serve Outdoors will provide mini-grants (from $500-$2,000 each) to six to eight statewide “green projects”. These projects must met energy-efficiency and environmental needs within communities and include volunteer participation. On-line application must be received by August 17, 2010. For more information and to apply for the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Serve Outdoors mini-grants, visit www.newmexserve.org.
