EcoServants will be spending AmeriCorps Week with the American Red Cross of New Mexico and the AmeriCorps*National Preparedness and Response Corps (NPRC) in mock disaster training with our Ready When the Time Comes Team from Ruidoso NM. The drill will take place at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center, 501 Elizabeth SE. Registration will begin at 9:00 am.

After the Little Bear Fire in June 2012 in which the Executive Director was a spontaneous volunteer at the Red Cross Shelter, EcoServants began looking for ways to assist in the natural disasters that Lincoln County faces. At the National AmeriCorps Conference in Chicago, we were able to link up with the Albuquerque Red Cross and begin the process of becoming the first New Mexico AmeriCorps program that is an American Red Cross – Ready When the Time Comes Team. EcoServants has also joined up to respond nationally with the Red Cross through the Disaster Services Human Resource Connection.

We are very excited to be a part of Red Cross as it will allow us to be of assistance to Lincoln County during wildfire, flooding and freezing disasters such as we have been experiencing since 2008.
