Habitat Affiliates in New Mexico Complete 600 Homes!

On Friday, February 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., a special announcement and commemoration ceremony will take place in the New Mexico State Capitol Building Rotunda with Governor Susana Martinez as the keynote speaker. Habitat for Humanity announces the completion of the 600th Habitat House in New Mexico! The 600th house represents the efforts of the entire state working together as a team to help eliminate substandard housing.

Following the Capitol Rotunda activities, on the same day, Habitat will host an open house at the ReStore Outlet with Steve Thomas from 2-3:30 pm and finally there will be a dedication and celebration of this exciting milestone event! The event will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the home of Habitat Partner Family, Humberto Mendoza and Debbie Montoya in the Tierra Contenta Community at 7252 Vuelta de la Luz, Santa Fe, New Mexico. For the dedication of the 600thhouse, Santa Fe Mayor David Coss will be the keynote speaker and Steve Thomas, former host of the PBS show, "This Old House", will be the Master of Ceremonies.

The 600th house is certainly a major milestone for Habitat for Humanity in New Mexico and the organization is celebrating its success around the world as the 500,000th house was recently completed in Kenya. Having built 6,032 houses in the United States in 2010, Habitat for Humanity became the 6thlargest builder of new homes in the country, ranking in the top 10 along with such housing giants D.R. Horton, KB Home, and Pulte/Centex.

Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide organization that operates in nearly 80 countries, including all 50 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity's help, a family somewhere in the world improves its housing situation every 7 minutes of every hour of every day of the year. In 2010, Habitat for Humanity served a record 74,960 families in need.
