January 11-13, 2012, Hotel Albuquerque
The 19th Annual Children’s Law Institute is a conference for Judges, child protective services workers, attorneys ,juvenile probation officers and individuals from a wide variety of service areas. The theme of the 2012 conference was “Community Matters”. This theme provided a timely opportunity for the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism to share information with conference attendees about our work in the community. The complexities of meeting the needs for families and children are risk are significant. The NMCCV is proud of New Mexico’s AMERICORPS programs and utilized the CLI as an avenue to recruit for members. The photos are of two young adults who are carrying the banner for the National Community Conservation Corps(NCCC). The NCCC is a viable option for youth aging out of the foster care system or with a history in the delinquency courts. The program provides training, a living stipend and 10 months of travel to destinations in need of disaster relief. Our young ambassadors represented the NMCCV well and generated interest for NCCC amongst the conference attendees. The NMCCV believes that “COMMUNITY MATTERS’, indeed it matters a lot.
