Learn and Serve LogoThe Learn and Serve America Grant is administered by the Commission. Support for New Mexico service learning is provided by a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The New Mexico Service Learning Project (NMSLP) is built on a long tradition of utilizing service as a strategy for engaging youth in New Mexico communities. The NMSLP accesses a wide range of resources by elevating service learning into a cross state department strategy embraced by the New Mexico Children's Cabinet.

New Mexico’s young people have the desire, energy and ability to make a real difference in our communities. Service-learning offers a unique opportunity for them to get involved in a tangible way by integrating community service projects with classroom learning. Service-learning engages students in the educational process, using what they learn in the classroom to solve real-life problems. Our Students not only learn about democracy and citizenship, they become actively contributing citizens and community members through the service they perform.

New Mexicans of all ages and backgrounds are helping to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and increase civic engagement through national service projects across New Mexico. Serving with national and local nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations and other groups, these citizens tutor and mentor children, coordinate after-school programs, build homes, conduct neighborhood patrols, restore the environment, respond to disasters, build nonprofit capacity and recruit and manage volunteers.
