Alums News - March 2011
BREAKING NEWS: The dates for AmeriCorps Week have changed! The new dates for AmeriCorps week are now May 14-21. This is a welcome change for two reasons: 1) May 14-21 is a week that the House of Representatives will be in their home districts and we will be doing a BIG push to SAVE AMERICORPS! and 2) The change gives you an extra week to prepare! If you have scheduled activities taking place May 7-14, this will not hurt your chances of receiving a grant from us. However, we will strongly encourage any further planning to aim for activities during May 14-21! Get the application here.
We are continuing the fight to Save AmeriCorps. We thank you for all the work you have done so far! District Day (Feb. 25) was a huge success and your actions have not gone unnoticed. However, the fight has only just begun. Moving forward there are a few things we need you to do while we plan our next move. First, we are working to FLOOD the news outlets with letters and testimonials and need you to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
We also need you to continue sharing your story of service. We'll use these in the future to provide elected officials with personal testimonials to as to the effectiveness of national service programs! As always, be sure to follow our blog for regular updates on the fight to Save AmeriCorps. And look for an email Monday that announces our next action!
We can't do this without YOU. Your willingness to do whatever it takes to save AmeriCorps has truly been inspiring to witness. We've decided to open up another avenue for you, your friends and family to support our efforts to Save AmeriCorps. Click here to join our cause and help fight for national service.
