Romaine Serna was appointed in February 2011 to serve as the Executive Director for the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism. Ms. Serna is a Licensed Master Social Worker and has been serving as the Communications Director for the Children, Youth and Families Department. Ms. Serna's significant tenure in state government has included managing child welfare, community outreach and policy development. Ms. Serna is an adjunct professor of Social Work at New Mexico Highlands University and was appointed to the New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners in 2009. Ms. Serna brings a strong background in management and the ability to build coalitions around common interests. Ms. Serna, said" I am honored to assume this role and look forward to enhancing and growing the service community in New Mexico".

Ms. Serna is a native of Espanola, New Mexico and is dedicated to preserving the cultural aspects New Mexico is recognized for because she believes it to be a fundamental aspect in building partnerships.

Julie Reeves has been employed by the Commission since 2001. In her position of Program Manager she is responsible for the monitoring of program adherence to both state and federal regulations as well as providing technical assistance, resource development and referral services to communities, programs and the public. She assists new programs in developmental stages to develop a network of services by working in communities and producing comprehensive support networks. Julie is a supporter for youth programs, education, community engagement, promoting service and volunteerism, fiscal responsibility and accountability.

The mission of the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism is to engage citizens of New Mexico of all ages and backgrounds in community based service to address the state's human, educational, environmental, public safety, health, housing, and other needs.

Virginia Chavez joined the Commission staff in 2002 and has been employed with Children, Youth and Families Department since 1998. She is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and attended New Mexico State University. As a Program Officer, Virginia administers and supports many the Commission’s initiatives including: AmeriCorps*State Programs, Learn and Serve America, Next Generation Fund Council, The New Mexico State Service and Strategic Plan, Disability Inclusion, Engaging Veterans, and the Work-Study Project. She regularly represents the Commission at conferences and outreach events. New Mexico is Virginia’s adopted home state and she truly values the communities she serves.
